Why Our Consultations Aren’t Free (….and why that matters)

A Consultation Is a Clinical Service

In our clinic, consultations are a necessary and foundational component of care. They are not a sales pitch, not a courtesy, and not a “free introduction.” They are a clinical interaction grounded in regulatory principles.

Each consultation includes:

  • Comprehensive medical and skin history

  • Objective imaging with VISIA diagnostic technology

  • A tailored treatment plan developed by a nurse practitioner

  • A considered discussion around expectations, risks, and outcomes

  • Documentation and follow-up aligned with best-practice medical care

Why We Charge

We charge for consultations for the same reason any other clinical service is charged, because it requires expertise, diagnostic reasoning, and time. Your consultation is not a pathway to a sale. It is a medical appointment.

Charging also protects the integrity of the time we spend with you. It allows for unhurried, unbiased clinical assessment and protects you from retail-driven treatments or promotional pressure.

The Risk of “Free”

Free consultations are rarely without cost. Often, they:

  • Prioritise product sales over patient care

  • Skim over history, context, and contraindications

  • Rely on standardised or pre-packaged “solutions”

  • Create pressure to proceed immediately, without time to reflect

This model does not align with safe, ethical, or informed practice.

What You Receive at The Derm Clinic

You will leave your consultation with:

  • A complete clinical overview of your skin health

  • Diagnostic imaging and insights

  • A structured, medically informed plan (which may include prescription skincare, in-clinic treatments, or referrals)

  • Time to consider all information without obligation

At The Derm Clinic, the consultation is the foundation of every clinical decision. Our VISIA diagnostics and comprehensive nurse practitioner assessments ensure that each treatment is evidence-based, intentional, and expertly delivered.
